I am a member of the Symphonicity Orchestra in Virginia Beach, VA and the Georgia Philharmonic Orchestra in Atlanta, GA. I have studied under the direction of The Hampton Roads Chamber Players and The Bay Youth Orchestra in Norfolk, VA. Currently performs several times a year at The Biltmore House in Asheville, NC and several other events in the Atlanta Metro area. I like to keep the mood lighthearted and fun while I am teaching, so that all students will feel comfortable and play to the best of their abilities. I do, however, believe in the importance of consistent and concentrated practice, and I will always tell a student if I feel that they are not putting enough work into their instrument. Because I know that people have busy schedules, I strive to teach students how to practice efficiently so that they can improve their playing even if they have limited time in the day in which to practice. I believe that the best way to learn music is to find ways to make practicing an instrument a fun and enjoyable endeavor. Even if you want to learn or continue to learn non-classical styles, it is important to have a basis of classical music training (i.e. reading music, proper counting of rhythms, understanding of chord structures, symbols, music terms, music history). Typically when I begin with children I incorporate the Hoffman Method and Books such as the Little Mozarts books, Alfred, Faber and Master Theory. I allow for children to learn fundamentals in a fun way so they can begin to read music and perform if they are interested. Students get to learn the basics like Mary had a little lamb, hot cross buns, jingle bells, and other fun tunes.
