I have been teaching private guitar lessons for the past eight years in person as well as remotely over different streaming platforms. I have experience working with students of all ages and playing abilities, and I have taught lessons in jazz, rock, bluegrass, country, folk, funk, and more. I pride myself in my adaptability as a musician, able to play and teach in many different genres and styles. My number one goal as a teacher is to help students become well versed in the kind of music that they are most drawn to, so that playing guitar becomes a fun and inspiring activity. Read More

I have many methods because I do not provide the same lesson plan for every student. Not everyone's voice is the same. Not everyone's skill level is the same. Not everyone's level of confidence is the same, and certainly not everyone's way of learning is the same. Knowing this, I focus on every individual's needs, goals, and unique talents to develop a custom lesson plan to ensure true progress. This ensures that every student has consistent progress that works best FOR THEM! For beginners who are children, I usually start with a method book series such as Bastien or Faber. As soon as it is appropriate, I also begin teaching fundamentals like scales, arpeggios, sight-reading, and supplemental technical training (Hanon exercises, for example). I also like to introduce works by famous composers as soon as I can - they come in all levels of difficulty and provide an opportunity to teach some music history. Read More

Always start where the student is, and take them from there. Always encourage and inspire students to be better than yesterday. Progress, no matter the amount, is progress. Take your own pace. If you have a specific deadline, for example a college audition, you will have to commit to practicing more than usual and we will create a plan of action. Also, I do write letters of recommendation. Celebrating daily practice to turn goals into accomplishments, I love seeing my students learn, harness their determination to do more, learn more, and I love seeing my students happy with their self-worth. I prefer to ensure that while my courses can be rigorous, we will let the student set the pace. I prefer to meet the student where they are, and then we can go from there as I tailor my lessons to their specific needs. As we go through we will set and accomplish goals, which each develop one or more techniques. This Is crucial to keeping students engaged and inspired in order to keep them invested in the instrument. Read More
