I've been a Worship Leader, Minister of Music and Worship Pastor at various church in the Pacific Northwest. I started teaching guitar in 1994 as I love to give the gift of music. It grew to teaching all the instruments I play as well as voice because singing is a passion of mine. I began teaching the guitar and beginner piano in 2012 after I graduated from UCSB and have been teaching in students’ homes and online since then. My teaching experience ranges from teaching adults who want to learn the fundamentals of classical guitar (beginning technique and sight-reading exercises) to teaching young kids interested in modern methods of playing, learning pop and rock songs, and playing solos. In 2015, I taught in afterschool programs, notably for Hancock Park Elementary School in Hancock Park, Los Angeles, for which I taught an excellent group of curious learners as we surveyed modern guitar methods, sight-reading, chords and harmonic progressions, and playing in duos. I have helped people both young and old learn how to play bass guitar and perform with any band and in any style of music through private instruction. I have been teaching beginning to intermediate piano for the past 2 years and I have the same approach to teaching piano as I do the bass guitar and that is to play the instrument the way it's meant to be played. My teaching style is structured primarily on learning to play by ear with light theory instruction.  For advanced and more serious students, I am a huge theory nerd and I really enjoy teaching a more technical approach as well. My philosophy is to improve a student's skills by nurturing each person's specific interest and goals.  I do not find it effective to try and force my own taste in music on my students, although I do make suggestions based on skills a student is trying to acquire.
