I encourage a regular practice schedule and assign weekly studies for the guitar. I encourage all my students to learn to read music but have also found that having them learn with their ear can be beneficial. After years of playing in garage bands, I applied to Wayne State University and enrolled in their music department. Strings: I use a traditional approach, but I am not tied to any particular method book. I can supplement whatever is being taught in school or the lessons can stand on their own. For 15 years, I conducted church and professional choirs and participated in many performances as an opera singer on stage.
