PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE My teaching experience started in 2007 with teaching young kids from our youth meeting in church. Now I am teaching in my home studio in Belleville, NJ since 2016. With more than 10 years experience, I love working with new students of all ages. I use a curriculum developed by Mrs, Irina Gorin which specialize in kids from 4-6 years. I always begin a lesson with a warm up. This can look different depending on the student, however I emphasize the importance of warming up your lungs, fingers, embouchure, and body. I then move to scales. For my beginner students, I use methods to learn the quick fingerings that is needed for basic fundamentals as well as exercises that assist in how we blow into the flute. I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. I graduated from Temple University in 1988, with a Master's of Music degree in the area of Percussion Performance, and Jazz emphasis. During my career at Temple I had the opportunity play with the Philadelphia Orchestra, and at various venues including in New York at Carnegie Hall, as an example. I obtained my NJ Teacher Certification for the grades of K-12 in 2004, from Rowan University. Read More

For all my students I like to balance between making our way through a method book and breaking down different songs and exercises. I recommend Hal Leonard's Essential Elements/Method books or Standard of Excellence books for my woodwind/guitar/ukulele students, Piano Adventures by Faber books for my piano students, and Breaking It Down or Alfred's Beginning Drumset Method for my drum students. Once the student has gained an understanding of basic sight-reading, then we can move on to more advanced books that can be focused on a theme or other advanced methods. Read More

During his time at the Eastman School he had the pleasure of playing in the Eastman Jazz Ensemble, Dave Rivello Ensemble, Saxology and toured with the Temptations and the Four Tops. Upon graduation Matt began working as a musician aboard Cunard and Princess Cruises traveling the Caribbean, Europe, the Mediterranean, Norway, United Kingdom and Iceland. In 2008 he was awarded a Masters Degree in Jazz Saxophone Performance from William Paterson University and in 2011 was awarded a DMA (Doctor of Musical Arts) in Jazz Saxophone from the University of Miami in Coral Gables Florida.
