I am a graduate of the Edna Manley College of the Performing Arts where I studied Music Education. I also have a diploma in Piano Performance and Teaching from the Royal College of Music. I have been an instrumental instructor for the past 25 years, and enjoy sharing the joys of music with learners. I believe that learning to play an instrument should be an enjoyable experience. Over the years, I've learned that every single student learns differently in addition to going at their own pace. Anyone at any age CAN learn music! I've found that presenting multiple solutions to varying problems gives the students the best chance to succeed and it's not that someone cannot learn, they just haven't been presented with an explanation they can understand and clicks for them. For beginning students, I prefer to use Essential Elements by Bruce Pearson. This is the book I learned from and have been using to teach. I enjoy this book because of its progression system and the incorporation of solos throughput instead of just exercises for the students to play through. As the students advance, I will pick or allow them to pick solos that will highlight their strengths as players. Read More

I like to demonstrate concepts by modeling so the student knows what they are supposed to sound and look like. I will sometimes play to give an example or send a link to a recording to help the student. I encourage students to go at their own pace. Knowing that people learn through a variety of methods, Blanche Marie draws from several well known method books to personalize the instruction to the pupil's needs and strengths. She believes that choosing one method book for every student doesn't make sense because each student's needs are different. The method books used depend on the needs of the students and the instruments they are learning.
