I believe in a warm, supportive and student-centered approach to teaching. I want all of my students to become better musicians, better artists, and better thinkers as a result of their flute studies. For all students, but especially those aged 12 or younger, an open channel of communication between the teacher and parent is very important.  While some children are very independent, it is my experience that many require parental oversight to encourage good practice habits.  Every child is different, and I’m always happy to talk with a student's parent(s) in order to ensure that every student is progressing and enjoying their time learning the flute! For beginner students I will use the book "Accent on Achievements" by Jack O'Reilly and Mark Williams. I will show them the fundamentals of their saxophones. I will teach students all the correct fingerings and the alternate fingerings. I will teach students how to read, write, and sight read sheet music.
