Over the past ten years, I have had the privilege of working with students of all ages, and have been on faculty at the Manhattan School of Music Summer Program, the Larchmont Music Academy, All-Island Music, and an adjunct teaching instructor New York University’s Steinhardt School of Music. I began taking on private students while still in college at Temple University in Philadelphia. Although I was pursuing a degree in performance, taking on a studio of woodwind students while completing my studies helped me realize my passion for passing along my own knowledge and experience I have gained as a musician! Since then, I have maintained a regular teaching schedule combining both in-home and studio-based lessons. Every lesson includes some technical exercises and a musical piece. These will be solo pieces as well as duets, being that I can play along with the flute or the guitar. With more advanced students that already have found the love for their instrument, I focus on strengthening their weak points, be it technique, sound or interpretation. At this point, I encourage the student to bring in any of their favorite songs that they (or their parents) would like for them to play and I custom create an arrangement that is suitable for their abilities. My primary instrument is trumpet and I have played in a variety of bands and sung in a variety of choruses of the years. My job is to assess the students abilities and lead them down the appropriate paths to achieving their musical goals. My goal is to cultivate musicianship.  Students are encouraged to develop technical skills as a means of creative and emotional expression.  Sight reading and improvisation are taught simultaneously with music theory and composition.
