I find that it is important to work on making a sound from the instrument as soon as possible, thats why often times the first drumset lesson will include learning a beat on the drumset. For any lesson I prefer to have two drum kits, side by side, so that my student can see exactly what I'm doing (posture, form, etc). Though this is not the case most of the time, one kit is always fine. For beginning students I often start with snare drum technique, and depending on what the student knows already, basic kit beats. I approach teaching like nursing a baby ,u care for the baby,u feed the baby when hungry,u cover the babies body from catching cold , you teach the baby how to eat ,u hug the baby when he or she start crying, when she wants to go put her hand in the fire u stop her and tell her in advance what she’s going to experience.when she’s 18 you start to tell her to set goals and always drive hard to achieve them ,you tell her to never give up and be distracted by boys,you’d tell to always keep learning in life because the day you stop learning you start dying. I teach music the same way language is learned, as both involve learning to listen, speak, write, and read. I start students off with the skill of listening as I demonstrate how the instrument is played, and then move them into "speaking" by guiding them in the basics of technique that will allow them to begin producing basic sounds. As the student learns to create original musical ideas, I help them learn how to write them down in musical notation, which ultimately serves their ability to read music. Read More
