I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. I was born in Marshall, Texas. I received my Bachelor of Music and my Master of Fine Arts in Music Education from Stephen F. Austin State University. I've spent seven years in public schools in the surrounding Houston area before coming on to teach with KIPP Houston Public Schools in 2012. My primary instrument is violin/viola under the training of Dr. Isidor Saslav, but spend my weekends on bass for community events and local performances. Read More

I want my students to have fun, but to also engage in very structured learning. All students must find time to practice during the week, but the parents must be a huge part of helping their child learn this new instrument. We will set weekly, realistic goals for each lesson. During the lesson, we will review the last concept that was learned, go over the lesson for the day and then create a lesson for the following week and be sure that each lesson is explained and understood. During my time at the university, I studied under Dr. Vagram Saradjian (student of Mstislav Rostropovich), Estelle Choi of the Calidore Quartet, Dr. Charles Hausmann (student of Leonard Bernstein), and many other inspiring musicians. I was principal cellist for both the Moores School Symphony Orchestra and Opera Orchestra and was an active member of many diverse chamber groups.
