My method of teaching involves researching a wide range of resources in order to find what is best for the student at the current stage in his or her development.  Using my own knowledge, I am able to effectively adapt and improve these resources so as to be accessible to the student.  For bass students, I might use Hal Leonard's Bass Method, book one.  For young beginning guitar students, I recommend The Beginning Guitarist's Book by Tom Hess. For older students I pick method books more specific to their age, learning style, and progress while still focusing on key points of interest for the student. I am not a taskmaster. I will gladly give homework and direction for what to practice, but it is not my job to berate students for not practicing as much as I would like them to. Everyone understands that music requires regular practice, and I believe that if it is worth it to a student to find the time to improve rapidly, they will make that time.
