My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time. I have been consistently teaching students since 2018. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

I like working with songs that students will enjoy playing or singing. I use songs as tools that include new information; so, with each piece, student learns something new with the joy of "just" learning a song. For my beginner students, who are younger, I start off with the Faber series in the Primer levels. After progressing through the first few levels of the series, I then start to introduce solo repertoire depending on the interests of the student. For my older students, we also go through the Faber Adult Piano Adventures book, where we learn the basics of piano along with some fun pieces. I teach more information outside of the book which is not taught until later to get ahead. Read More

I use the McClosky Technique for vocal relxation when teaching voice. This is a hands on method stressing easy singing and designed not to damage voices. On guitar I stress music theory and basic technique to allow the student to develop his or her own style.
