During my undergraduate time I was apart of those vocal ensembles and worked closely with professors and students to write, arrange and perform full length vocal compositions. Soon after graduation, I was a full-time musician giving freelance voice lessons, and also teaching jazz voice while an artist in residency at Duke Ellington. During my time at Duke, I continued to perform and record around Washington, DC. Nothing is more rewarding that seeing one of my students develop a love for music. Therefore, it is important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting goals that are realistic and acknowledge when a student has reached a particular goal. This helps the student to become more eager to learn, more willing to spent that time each day practicing. This method offers a comprehensive approach to learning the fundamentals of music, including rhythm, note reading, and instrumental techniques.
