For younger students, I start with an emphasis on breathing for singing and posture. We being by learning the Kodly method. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals (breathing and posture), I assign songs that are vocally appropriate for their age and sometimes sing some songs they love if they have any.
