Children should get their beginnings in technique books and eventually music that stimulates further growth and interest; and adults, like the kids, importance is placed on technique, but even moreso, good practice techniques! I started teaching voice part-time in college, and once I graduated took on a full time position teaching privately in my home studio, student’s homes, and in schools in Round Rock. Implementing the motivation and lesson plan to practice regularly is an important skill that can be learned while still having fun. I provide students the tools to help overcome stage fright, gain confidence, integrate performance technique, and feel better about singing while learning their favorite music! Students of mine have made the All-Region choir, All District auditions, choir solos, musical roles, and sang the national anthem for organizations. This will vary given the student's abilities and particular intentions for study. In general, I focus on five distinct areas of learning: technique, theoretical understanding, reading, intuitive playing/learning by ear, and performance. I like to keep each lesson fluid and organized, by maintaining structure within segments of study. I started singing professionally at age 15. Through the years I have taught both private voice and piano lessons. I have also taught at Elbert County Charter School grades kindergarten through the 8th grade in general music education. I have served as the minister of music at St Paul's Methodist Church in Burlington NC, Aurora First Presbyterian Church in Aurora Colorado and at Providence Presbyterian in Parker Colorado.
