Michael D

Instruments:

When I was six years old, my parents bought a piano and asked if I would like to play. I had no idea what it meant to play music but I answered, "yes!" Later on the electric guitar became interesting, so my Dad bought me a guitar for $75 dollars. Six years later I was offered a college scholarship to study music, and was offered the opportunity to improve my skills as a pianist/guitarist, educator, and composer. As a professional musician, teaching is one of my callings. Making an impact in other people's lives is extremely satisfying to me. My passion is performing my own music with my friends. However, without great teachers and mentors, I would have never made music my career. My commitment is to bring joy and love to each student's life as they study with me. Keeping music fun and playful is my vision. It is the highest honor to become a part of a student's life. Creating new partnerships with families in order to bring about the environment to make music a powerful part of a student's life forever is my primary goal as an educator. Music serves as a key to unlimited personal growth realized by a belief in oneself. I look forward to bringing music into your life.

More Information About Voice Lessons

There are many elements to vocal training, from learning to read music, to breath control techniques and mastering intonation. In beginning singing lessons, most students will learn and develop proper vocal technique which will help them be able to sing in a variety of styles. This multi-faceted approach is at the core of classical vocal training, giving students a well-rounded knowledge of musical techniques. Singing lessons will also allow students to develop their musical and performance skills and give them the confidence they need to audition and perform on stage.
Musika offers customized one-on-one music lessons at your home - a time saving solution for busy parents and students. The convenience of in-home voice lessons allows you to save time without having to transport your child to class, allows your child to maximize their busy schedule, and provides a safe and familiar environment in which to learn.
Our teachers create a customized lesson plan for every student, so no two students' lesson plans will be identical. Topics covered during Musika's voice lessons may include, but are not limited to: proper breath control technique and how to support your voice, how to read music, how to interpret various styles of singing (classical, jazz, pop, etc.), performance tips and techniques, how to overcome stage fright, and most importantly, learning to enjoy music and express yourself through singing!
Our students study many different genres of music in their voice lessons, including Pop, Country, Classical, Gospel, Musical Theater, Jazz, and more! For every genre, we have an instructor who can specialize in that area, and help you achieve your musical goals. Our adult voice students actively pursue and are successful in auditions for major talent competitions such as the X-Factor, The Voice, and American Idol!
We recommend beginning Voice lessons at age 11 or 12. The vocal instrument, unlike other instruments, is attached to the body. Starting voice lessons too young, or when the student is not emotionally ready or mature, can lead to vocal damage or straining. Many of our instructors are capable of working with younger students under this age, but it is our opinion, and the opinion of many other Vocal Education professionals, that the student should wait until their body has begun the process of puberty before beginning voice lessons.
