While my degrees were both received within the requirements of a classical genre, my passion and style are no where limited to it. My teaching methods are individually tailored to the student's needs and abilities. For young students and/or for those with less voice experience, I like to combine the basics of singing along with musicianship skills to set the student up for success, incorporating lots of fun to keep the young students interested in practice and lessons. For more experienced students, I like to start with warmups and exercises that are designed to set the student up for success in repertoire, and then finish the lesson working through repertoire specifically working through challenging areas of each piece and finding an emotional connection to each piece once ideal technique is established. I began teaching private voice and piano lessons in 2010 while pursing my undergraduate degree, immediately recognizing the joy of helping develop a passion for music within any willing student. I have since continued to teach students of all ages, styles, and experience levels at a studio location, in student's homes, and in music schools. My teaching experience dates back to my high school days, as I rose to become section leader of the clarinet section in band and section leader of the alto section in choir. Since then, I have been teaching private lessons to students of all different ages and skill levels, as well as individuals with disabilities. Encouraging practice schedules and routine is something I like to emphasize in younger students.
