I first began teachng bass guitar in my early twenties.  Later in life I worked in both Japan and Thailand, where I studied with master drum teachers and also top piano and violin instructors.  After returning to the United States, I entered a program to become a certified guitar instructor, and am the ONLY instructor in my area which has earned these certifications which are specific to several different points of teaching guitar. For beginners, I typically start students off with the suzuki books to build technique, but I teach them from the classical perspective rather than the suzuki method. With intermediate and advanced students, i will introduce solo repertoire appropriate for recital performance and/or a commercial piece (fiddle tunes, pop songs, etc) that the student is interested in learning. Fiddle is my specialty, but I also teach classical violin and even my fiddle students will learn classical technique. Read More

I teach the with Suzuki method. The Suzuki Method focuses on the Mother Tongue Method and was created by Dr. Sinichi Suzuki. He, and I, believe that every child is able to play music beautifully. The method emphasizes listening and parental involvement. I look to find the balance between challenge and enjoyment for each student. I tailor my lessons to each individual student. Students learn at different rates, so, therefore, I want each student to progress at his or her own pace, without comparison to where my other students may be at. I want learning an instrument to be an enjoyable experience, and though the student may have to do and play practices, exercises, and pieces that they may not necessarily enjoy in the moment, it will all be beneficial to him or her in the long run and I will incorporate pieces and selections that interest them as well.
