I work in partner with students who are enrolled in public school lessons, and incorporate their school's method book (i.e. Essential Elements 2000 or similar), as well as rudimentary exercises and pieces appropriate for their level. I am a strong advocate of Kreutzer etudes, Hrimaly scales, and Suzuki pieces as learning tools. I guide my instruction based around the students' ability, needs, and goals. I believe that learning music is a constant conversation between student, teacher, and any others involved (parents, guardians, siblings, school music teacher), and like to keep communication open with weekly notes and homework assignments recorded in a music notebook. My teaching style is all about getting the student to love music! There is nothing else that will be a greater and more honest motivator than loving what they are doing. Singing, games and dancing are great when the little ones get distracted or discouraged. I make sure to let everyone know that music isn't easy; it's hard and takes a lot of hard work and practice. But it is worth every minute of being able to play anything you desire. Read More

I teach out of my home studio in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, as well as through Zoom to students worldwide. I have both a Master's and a Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where I was concertmaster of the Conservatory Orchestra and the recipient of the full-ride Sergei Barsukov Violin Scholarship. In addition to my private studio, I am an active performer in several professional chamber music ensembles and a Teaching Artist for the Midori & Friends Foundation here in New York, as well as on faculty for Elizabeth Faidley Studios. After each lesson, I wrote down their homework, and if a parent is there, I go over their progress. If it's an adult student, I obviously don't have to do that, but I enjoy all ages, and have students 4-82 currently! I even go to teach my 82 year old student, at her assisted living place! The difference between a kid and an adult student, is usually, that the child notices the correctly notes, while the adult thinks they had to be 7 to learn. Read More

I began teaching private lessons when I was a junior in high school and have been teaching since then. My philosophy is that any one can play an instrument with the proper instruction and patience. I encourage my students to practice regularly and strive to achieve their goals, but most importantly my goal is to help them to feel more confident and enjoy music, no matter what stage they are at in their musicianship. However, I do not teach the Suzuki method. I use the book for the songs and exercises in the book. I also like all students to work from a theory book. When we learn how to speak, we also learn how to read and write in our language. I believe that the same is important for music. I use different books for adults and children. As for continuing students, I will see what they know and continue from there. Read More
