Beginner trumpets are relatively cheap and available through many music shops or instrument catalogs. Some music shops can also provide rentals. For the budget-conscious customer, used trumpets are also an option, but it is strongly recommended that the buyer purchase at least a new mouthpiece. Something to look for with a used trumpet is to be sure that the instrument can be taken apart and put together easily and is relatively free of dents. Our trumpet instructors can also help with the selection of an instrument and all the accessories required to keep it in great condition.
Trumpet lessons in home are a convenient way to learn an instrument. In home lessons are structured the same way as in-studio and there is no additional travel time. Our teachers generally teach students one lesson a week.
Each student will have a custom lesson plan created for them by their instructor. Our teachers will generally recommend specific method books that students can purchase for use in their lessons. Students will learn how to read music, how to sight read, musicianship skills, and the specific skills needed to play the trumpet and support the sound.
Many adult students choose to take the trumpet, even with no previous experience. Trumpet can be a wonderful instrument to learn for the first time and a lot of progress can be made as long as the student is practicing! Trumpet can be a very satisfying instrument to learn as an adult because it takes a lot of lung capacity and skill to play trumpet.
Children are recommended to start the trumpet at age 7 or 8. A student needs to be able to hold and support the weight of the instrument for extended periods, and also have enough lung capacity to support the sound.
