For beginning students I will start with fundamentals, music theory and basic music reading lessons. For more advanced students I teach those same methods but will also apply improvisation and song writing to the lessons with my own “4 Steps to Song Writing” method. Whether beginner or a bit more advanced, I have always liked to return to the basic foundational knowledge and techniques that must be understood well in order to advance and have a good sound and a good technique. For beginners in piano, I like to find books that the individual feels comfortable with and that they completely understand what they are getting themselves into. Every person is different. For snare drum, I like to use a book called stick control which helps students develop mastery in the way they play from precision to striking the snare drum correctly and the way they overall develop their style of playing.
