I started teaching while I was in college as a swing dance instructor. I got my first experience teaching people who had little to no experience with the art form, and I had to navigate teaching students with varying skill levels. After college I began teaching beginning students how to play both saxophone and clarinet. I have been teaching private lessons for about eight years. My experience teaching in different classrooms helps me work with a large variety of students with just as much variety of skill levels. The most important part of music is connecting with the pieces you play. I provide students with the opportunity to influence certain parts of repertoire that they learn. I am a passionate music educator who loves working with instrumental students of all ages. In 2015, I graduated from Carson-Newman University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Instrumental and Vocal Music Education. During my time there, I participated in many ensembles and was awarded with several honors for my saxophone performance abilities. During this time, I also studied the oboe as my secondary instrument. My teaching experience dates back to when I was 16 years old and started teaching students from the church that I played piano at. I've been teaching full time since I was 25 years old, and I love teaching. I believe students progress faster when they are learning to play their favorite songs, and are having fun with learning to play the piano.
