My teaching experiences have come from my time spent playing in a variety of ensembles in the different colleges that I attended. I was often asked to lead groups in rehearsal and this was where my teaching experiences first began. It started with my colleges Big Band and then with a Saxophone Quartet. Being able to lead a group of musicians and helping them get better everyday was the most fulfilling feeling I got during my time in school and pushed me to try my hand at teaching younger students. For beginners, I like to start with the Rubank method books, which progress pretty rapidly. I also focus on tone production and scales as we move along at the level of the individual student. I gauge the speed at which we move based on the student in question, and prepare a practice routine for each student based on how much time they have to practice each day. For an intermediate to advanced student, I work with more the more advanced Rubank method books, and suggest solo literature appropriate for them to prepare. Read More
