I have been teaching clarinet and piano since 2019. For each student, I focus on developing healthy practice habits (physically mentally) that allow them to be efficient and rewarded by their time spent with the instrument. I help students build a strong foundation of fundamentals so they are able to be successful working on more advanced literature. My methods are fairly simple and straight-forward! I emphasize a good, solid basic ability to sight read and understand theory. Without a good base the rest of the building would be unstable. If I'm working with a beginner I prefer to use a mixture of Thompson and Michael Aaron to solidify the basics and branch out from there based on the students aptitudes and preferences. I like the student to always have a favorite song on the side of any educational book as well, often a Disney song or simple hymn which very frequently become their passion and recital piece! For beginning students, I begin with basic open chords and scales. Once the student has basic chords down I like to teach them a song of there choosing. I found this to be one of the most rewarding experiences when I began taking lessons. For adults, I like to hear any ideas they may have and give my input and direction. After graduation I went and taught in Chicago for a few years and Greenville SC where I was the music teacher in both schools.
