Overview:

I am a motivated and passionate piano instructor who loves motivating and spreading the gift of performing music to others. In 2014, I received the chance to attend my senior year of high school at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. There I enhanced my piano performance knowledge, and realized that I wanted to pursue music education, and work with others to help strengthen their talents. I received my bachelor's in 2019 from North Carolina Central University, and graduated with a 4.0 GPA. I continued to enhance my education through continued piano performance, music theory, and music history.

EXPERIENCE

During my college days, I had the opportunity to study under multiple piano teachers, as well as observe music teachers around Durham county. During my senior year, I had the opportunity to student teach at Durham School of the Arts. I taught in the piano lab, which included six piano classes, each filled with 12-24 students. Each class was a mixture of students from seventh grade to twelfth grade, beginning to advanced students. I worked with every student one-on-one, and also provided group theory lessons to the class. It was a fun and fulfilling experience, as I individually got to work and know each student.

METHODS USED

For beginning students who are children, I usually begin them with Alfred's Basic Piano (Starting with Level 1A). Once the student begins to understand the fundamentals (Notes of the piano, how to sit properly, basic technique, and reading notes), we will progress along Alfred's book series. By level 5, the student will begin to be introduced to Classical music, and begin advancing as a pianist. For teenagers to adults, I present my lessons based on the knowledge of music they already have. If the student is a beginner and cannot read music, we simply begin with the basics. If the student can read music, then I will begin them with repertoire that reflects proper progression.

LESSON STYLE

I enjoy watching students develop a passion for music! It is important that each student progresses at their own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. For example, beginning students who work from the basic piano books will have the realistic goal of working on one piece per week, learning the fundamentals as we progress. I always give positive feedback to students on what they are doing well, as it provides the student a desire to progress, and to strengthen areas that can be improved.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
