Key signatures, time signatures, note values, rest duration will be among several fundamental features that will be also introduced and taught for the beginning student.   Coordinated left hand and right hand finger exercises separately and in unison will be a starting point and continue with added complexity to keep the student’s fingers limber and strong. I have the same approach to teaching beginner and intermediate piano. Again, we learn our notes in five finger position and then we learn to read time signatures, notes in the treble clef, chords, and rhythms, as well as playing complete songs. It all depends on the areas of music the student would like to focus on. No matter if it's music theory, composition, or performance, my main idea is to intricately learn the about the music that interests you, learn how to apply it on your instrument, and then use your creativity to create something new.
