Whether you're just starting out or looking to refine your technique, I'm here to help you achieve your musical goals. My primary expertise is in guitar, but I also have experience with bass guitar, drums, and music production, having played in various bands across genres. I started my journey with formal lessons, which built a solid foundation, and Ive continued to grow through self-study, online courses, and collaborating with other musicians. Read More

I've been teaching private lessons on multiple instruments since 2001. I teach beginning thru advanced levels on electric bass, clarinet, and jazz theory. I teach beginning thru intermediate levels on guitar and most other wind band instruments (flute, sax, etc.). I was the Director of Bands (grades 5-12), Technical Theater Director, and Chair of the Creative and Performing Arts Department at Fredericksburg Academy, and independent school in Fredericksburg, VA from 2007-2013. My teaching style is very laid back and relaxed. As much as possible, I like lessons to be student driven. Allowing the student to take a measure of control over what they are learning, gives them a bit more ownership of and investment in their lessons. I have found this to keep students more interested and be more successful in their learning. That being said, I do help guide and steer the student, so that we are still able to accomplish the necessary theory and technique. Read More
Instruments: Piano
Alfred Publishing piano courses (both older and newer), Faber and Faber, Bastien, Edna Mae Burnam, and the Hal Leonard course have all been among my pre-published methods that I have used over the years. I have also adopted some technic content from elsewhere. For example, the Zion Conservatory of Music, where I taught from 2004 to 2018, uses a couple of different customized scale patterns for first- and second-year students. A book I have used with intermediate students is a Conus Russian piano method edited by James and Susan McKeever, who taught the Parkside piano pedagogy courses. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
I believe in being supportive, encouraging, and kind, yet firm. I encourage those students who are interested in performing by helping them to find opportunities. Every student is different and has different goals. We work to develop their potential. Some of my students are beginners and some have more experience. I like to make the lessons as fun as they can be and work on pieces and songs that the students enjoy! Read More

I love it when my students ask questions. Being curious is one of the most important elements of learning an instrument and fostering the students innate curiosity and giving them a space to personalize their interest in the instrument is vital to my teaching style. Of course, there are basic expectations, which grow from year to year, but I don't mind straying from classical rep into other genres or experiments with sound because it allows them to connect what they are learning in lessons, to their inner voice that needs a vehicle of expression. I started teaching guitar when I was in college and have been teaching for almost 17 years since. I have taught at many music stores and currently teach out of my home.. I have had many students go on to perform in bands and a few even have toured nationally. I encourage my students to follow their dreams no matter how big or small. During lessons I try to make them feel comfortable with no pressure. Read More
