Joanne H

I'm a passionate instructor who loves working with beginner students and sharing my love of music. I grew up in California and first began learning music at the young age of 6, where I first played the piano before moving on to the cello. In 2014 I recently graduate from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences and a Music Minor. I began my undergraduate career as a music major until deciding to pursue a degree in delving into the scientific basis of hearing sciences.  Despite having music as a minor I was heavily involved in music during my undergraduate career in the following mediums: chamber music groups, baroque chamber ensemble, as well as solo repertoire all while studying under UW Music Faculty such as Toby Saks who was cello professor at the time. I am currently a Doctorate student studying audiology with an interest in understanding music perception and its relation with hearing loss. Although I don't have a formal music degree, I do have years of experience from orchestral, solo and chamber music experience. My teachers that I have studied from include Dorien de Leon (Cello professor of Lewis & Clark) and Toby Saks (University of Washington).
