Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

Once we've established a basic working of character and music theory we will begin to learning the anatomy of our instruments and how to handle and care for them. Now the fun part begins. We will then immediately dive into making noise, chords, warm up practices and small challenge games on the instrument! 3rd sessions we will begin to focus on the student's interest in genre styles and selected pieces of music. My first contact with music was during my early childhood, when I took piano, guitar and violin lessons. Growing up, I was always active playing with several youth orchestras and various ensembles, ranging from classical to popular and folk music. I studied piano and composition at the California State University, Sacramento, where I had the opportunity to study with world class musicians and be part of cutting edge orchestras and choirs; during my college years I went on several tours with a choir, performing in venues such as Carnegie Hall, N.Y I currently perform as pianist and accompanist with Opera singers from the area, and also compose upon comissions. I like to utilize the methods that work best for the individual student. I am not a rigid, one approach only type of teacher. I find the student is more likely to succeed when I adapt to their individual learning style. The teaching methods I use for young beginners are a combination of Kodaly and Orff (both standard methods of public school music) as well as straight traditional notation and music theory ('tablature' is usually reserved for older, more experienced students). I'm a firm believer in teaching the fundamentals of music, while at the same time, making it fun and engaging for the learner. My sessions are casual and personable. As much as possible, I follow the student's preferences in regards to the pace and content of each lesson as well as song selection. I can slow down for students that need more practice or provide more lessons and practice for faster learners. Each lesson has a drawing, a finger exercise, and a strumming (rhythm) component. Depending on the student, other corollary information about the structure of music, music theory, and so on are imparted as the lessons proceed, often becoming mini-lessons in their own right.
