Raymond L

Instruments:

In 1975 I received a scholarship to study advanced studies on the musical field. I studied with the Teachers: L. Egúrbida, J.S. Fraticelli, E. Frasson, A. Romero, and A. Díaz. In 1980 I finished my musical studies at the Conservatory of Music of San Juan, Puerto Rico and graduated MAGNA CUM LAUDE, with specialization in Musical Education and Performing Arts. I was the first native of Curacao Netherland Antilles to study classic Guitar and Musical Education in Puerto Rico. I have played as principal guitarist in renowned musical groups such as Los Ecos and The Polyglots, in several bands, and as a soloist I have given numerous recitals and concerts in the Antilles and abroad. I was selected to be part of the special group responsible for developing a plan for interviews and petitioner’s evaluation to study at the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico for the academic year 1980-1981.I also received a scholarship to continue more advanced studies at Aspen Music Festival and School in Aspen, Colorado. In 1980 I obtained, recommended by the Administration of the Conservatory of Puerto Rico, very high acknowledgements including THE NATIONAL DEAN'S LIST OF AMERICA and the AMERICAN BIOGRAPHICAL INSTITUTE. I worked as a Music Educator at the Social and Pedagogic Academic Institute teaching Pedagogic and Didactic Principles to while simultaneously teaching classical and popular guitar at the Curacao Netherlands Antilles Cultural Center at all levels and ages. I was the co-founder of the Curacao Guitar-Society (GISO), at present “KITARA KORSOU, N.A.”. He also was the vice-president of the PRODIM (PRO Integral Musical Development) Foundation. In the past I have recorded several records with various well-known musicians. In June, 1984 I gave a series of guitar master-classes. My autodidactic guitar method “MELODIC GUITAR” for beginners from 7 years of age and older, is the first guitar method translated from the Papiamento language into the English and Spanish languages. During 2007 and through 2008 I had a position as a guitar, bass-guitar, piano, and Music Theory Instructor at “THE LATIN MUSICIANS INSTITUE” in Puerto Rico.

More Information About Guitar Lessons

As a preference, younger students should start off by learning on a half size or three-quarter sized acoustic guitar. If they are able to hold it comfortably, older students could start off using an electric guitar. A brand new student model guitar can be purchased for about $150 to $200. An electric guitar will also need accompanying amplification as well as guitar cables, which will incur additional costs. It is important a student enjoys playing their instrument - so higher quality guitars are recommended as they are easier to play.
Musika offers customized one-on-one music lessons at your home - a time saving solution for busy parents and students. The convenience of in-home guitar lessons allows you to save time without having to transport your child to class, allows your child to maximize their busy schedule, and provides a safe and familiar environment in which to learn.
At Musika, we appreciate that every student learns at their own pace. As such, our experienced teachers produce customized guitar lessons specifically for the requirements of each individual student. Our teachers can design lessons for any student, regardless of their age, experience or ability. Some of the things students can expect to learn during their lessons are; learning all the notes of the guitar, playing and rhythmic techniques such as fretting, fingering and strumming, how to read musical notation and tablature, learning how to play a variety of different chords, such as open and barre chords, and music theory. Over time, as each student progresses, they will learn how to piece everything they have learned together, in order to form complete compositions. Students can learn to play their favourite songs, or even to write their music!
Whatever your current ability level, we recommend that students wanting to take guitar lessons have a clear aim in mind. Beginner students may wish to learn to play a few of their favorite songs, or an advanced player might like to work on a specific aspect of their guitar playing. Regardless of your goals, our experienced Musika teachers can help make them happen. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced student, achieving your goals will take time. Developing the necessary skills can sometimes take months. The only way to ensure you achieve your goals is to dedicate yourself to lessons and practice.
Students are able to start taking guitar lessons with Musika at age 6. Students of this age will find it much easier to learn on a half-sized classical guitar with nylon strings, and will start their musical development by learning simple melodies on the top strings. As students advance, they will start to form a range of different chords and learn to play more challenging songs - usually by ages 7-8. Often students will progress onto using a full size guitar by the ages of 10-12. During these years, students usually develop a taste for rock music want to play the electric guitar.
