I enjoy teaching and watching musicians grow in their abilities. I like to give a solid base for a beginning musician to build upon while keeping lessons fun and interesting. Patience is the key, because I remember when I started playing and the more I practiced the better I became. I like to take our time and practice every exercise slowing until we become confident and then we will add some speed. Read More

In guitar lessons with me, I generally go through a guitar book (the book varies depending on the students experience and what we decide to use) but mainly focus on what the student wants to learn. Learning the fundamentals of guitar will help the student learns what they want to learn, so that is applied to the lessons. A typical lesson with me goes as follows: Tune and warm up song (something the student is confident in). Read More

I began private teaching while studying in college and am looking to expand and build a studio in The Greater Seattle Area. I have taught my own students and acted as a substitute teaching instructor ; nurturing and respecting the teaching styles already presented to the students. During my schooling in Boston, I studied Alexander Technique and always try to incorporate body awareness when working with students! I have helped former students achieve their goals for auditions and recitals, and enjoy helping students find a piece that really sparks their interest. Read More

I love to see my students grow and develop as their passion for music increases. I facilitate this by giving examples of goals that they can reach and examples of different styles and genres that they can immerse themselves in. By doing this students see that playing and possibly mastering an instrument is not just about discipline and practice but about a high level of expression and communication. The reward my students feel from being able to accomplish this instills in them great joy and pride and motivates them to work at other things in life the same way. Read More

I am a very hands-on teacher. We do lots of improvisation and call and response games and sometimes I turn on a record or even bring a guitar to jam with the student. Playing drums is a very visceral, tactile excersize, and I often tell students, "That right there, that is how it's supposed to sound! Memorize that feeling and try to recreate it everytime." I am also a huge advocate of having students listen to as much music as possible. Read More

Each and every student will respond differently to instruction, and I am proud to say that I am extremely adaptable. I want to make sure that I am communicating with each individual in a way that they will understand and be successful with, because the student is the most important variable. I use a wide variety of pop culture, classical influence, and I make sure to provide my students with opportunities to challenge themselves and grow in many ways, including encouraging them to participate in live performaces, competitions, and composition. I'm a passionate music educator with considerable experience as a teacher and performer. I graduated from the University of Arkansas in 2005 where I studied music education with an emphasis on trombone. Since graduation, I have been fortunate to have many opportunities to conduct, perform, and teach music. I play a many different instruments and perform many different genres and styles. Whether it be conducting student ensembles, performing in small clubs, or singing with a chorus at Carnegie Hall, many of my best life experiences have been because of music and I want to guide my students toward their own great musical experiences.
