I have started teaching private lessons since high school through the Suzuki Method, and into my college and graduate school years. I have taken classes on pedagogy and teaching artistry in creative ways, such as teaching students to do improvisations and asking questions in order to get them engaged in the learning process. I have played classical, jazz, pop, and latin music, and can teach an array of different genres. Read More

Students will learn proper fingerings through scale practice, begin to develop their tone through etudes and short solo pieces, and learn to properly use a metronome. Basic music theory and history will be incorporated into lessons. Advanced Students: Older and more advanced students are encouraged to be active in guiding the direction of their flute lessons. Students will be given the tools to advance their technique through the use of scale books, weekly etudes and exercises, their musical interpretation skills with solo pieces and orchestral excerpts, and an increased understanding of music theory and history. I believe in positive affirmation and goal setting. My goal with all students is that they enjoy learning, become self-motivated to practice, and consider their musical abilities as a gift which they can choose to share with others whenever they feel comfortable to do so. I have experience using a variety of method books and can easily recommend appropriate materials. I also encourage students to share with me and allow me to help them learn their favorite music, as well, even if that involves writing it out with or for them. Read More

As for beginners, I would recommend Hal Leonard’s Essential Elements-Flute, Book 1. For more experienced players, I would recommend De la Sonorité and 24 Progressive Studies for Flute, along with the Trevor Wye Practice Books. More specifically, we would focus on the Tone, Technique, and Breathing and Scales books. As the student moves forward, we can have a more detailed discussion about solo works. I would also recommend for older, dedicated players to possibly look into playing orchestral excerpts. Read More
Instruments: Piano Flute
For beginning piano students, I use the Faber Piano Adventure series. This series is simple, filled with music theory, and keeps the young student motivated. For beginning flute students, I use the Trevor Wye flute instruction books, along with the curriculum that is being taught in the student's band class at school. As students advance, the next level books are taught, along with solo repertoire for recitals and other performances. Read More

Hi! My name is Robert, and I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with some hopeful and aspiring young musicians in the Denver area!!!! I am very passionate about music, which is likely why I was never able to just stick to one instrument when I was in band in high school. My principal instrument is trumpet, but I play all woodwind, brass, and percussive instruments, and I sing. Read More

I started teaching two years ago at a private lesson studio in Denver called My Music Skool. My main focus was on piano and saxophone. Now I teach privately as a freelance musician. Two points I emphasize when teaching are practicing at least once a day no matter how long you play and learning what inspires you. There will always be some sort of theory I sneak in whether it's learning scales or building technical skills that will build confidence and ability, but if these devices aren't being applied to the type of music that inspires the student, then learning music becomes discouraging instead of fun.
