LaTasha D

Instruments:

TashaRenee was 3 years old singing her first solo, “God Is”, at church and she hasn’t shut up since. She says “singing is just a part of who I am."  TaRe is a great eclectic vocalist that has been singing all of her life.  Although she has gospel roots, she decided to learn more about music as an undergraduate and graduate student in the Music-vocal performance degree programs.  She has been a part of several casts in Operas across the nation, with her professional Opera debut being the Strawberry Woman in Porgy and Bess in New Orleans, Louisiana.  She also studied voice in Italy and was able to perform gospel music at the Leaning Tower of Pisa and classical music at the Teatro Verdi.  Not only has she been featured among some of Classical music’s celebrities; she has also sung background for some the best in Gospel, R&B, and Country music in the business.   In the Gospel arena she has done background for Lisa McClendon, Leon Timbo, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Karen Clark-Sheard, Vicki Winans, Marvin Sapp, Dorinda Clark-Cole just to name a few.  She has sung in the Full Gospel Baptist Mass Recording Choir, Life Center Cathedral Mass Choir, and the Louisiana State Full Gospel Recording Choir where she was also a featured soloist. She has sung background for the powerful Mrs. Ann Nesby, Eric Benet, Michael McDonald, and Wynonna Judd.  Recently she was one of the featured background singers for the AARP Songs of Soul concert at Philips Arena. She worked with such notable artists as: Debbie Allen, Ann Nesby, Chaka Khan, Pastor Shirley Ceasar, CeCe Winans, Queen Latifah, Patti Austin, Yolanda Adams, Dionne Warwick, Paris Bennett, and little Miss Jamiah from the movie August Rush.  Currently she is working on her own project that will energize and captivate the audience in a nostalgic, yet unique and unconventional way; pushing the boundaries of how we see music today! TashaRenee has also been seen in several professional movies. She was in the Lifetime original movie For One Night with Raven Symone and also apart of Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail to name a few. She has acted in several traveling plays, musicals, and operas across America.  TashaRenee has been teaching piano, voice and acting privately since 1999. She has been training choirs since she was 13 years old. She brings a wealth of God given wisdom, educational knowledge and experience to the table for all of her students. Allow TashaRenee to help you perfect the gift within you!

Katherine M

Instruments:

I love music and have studied piano since I was six years old.  I also studied organ and clarinet briefly.  My degrees are in Psychology and Communications.  I worked for state and federal government agencies and was a writer and producer for CNN/Atlanta for ten years.  I enjoy teaching piano and now have six students ranging in age from 4 to 36 years of age.  I also enjoy tennis and am a former lawa student, but found the latter not to my liking.

Richard R

Instruments:

I have been a professional musician and teacher for over 25 years. I have taught as an adjunct Professor of Jazz Guitar at Miami-Dade Community College. I have also taught as a general music teacher for the Broward Public Schools in south Florida and for the Cobb County District Schools in the Atlanta, Georgia area. I have studied guitar privately for 15 years with Vince Bredice who has published many books on guitar for Mel Bay Publishers, one of the largest music publishers in the world. I have done private studies in Early Music of the Renaissance period with Joseph Iadone a disciple of Paul Hindemith. I attended seminars in Jazz Guitar with legendary guitarists Joe DiOrio, Tal Farlow and Jack Wilkins. My philosophy of teaching is to help the student play the music that he or she wants to play and give the student a practical understanding of the guitar and music theory. I teach the skills that enable the student to apply themselves to all forms of music. Each student is an individual and is taught in a manner that inspires his or her personality.

Vinny I

Instruments:

I was born in the former Soviet Union in 1982. My family and I moved to the states in 1991 and have lived in the Atlanta area ever since. I have been classically trained in violin since the age of 3, and I also picked up the piano and guitar as I got older. I have been teaching music for 12+ years, and my instruments include: violin, viola, piano, and guitar. I also tutor in Music Theory and Music History.

More Information About Piano Lessons

We suggest students purchase a piano or keyboard for their lessons, as they will need to practice every day in order to develop their skills on the instrument. We recommend a keyboard with weighted keys, as this will feel most similar to an actual piano. An actual piano will have 88 keys, but most keyboards start from 65 keys and go up from there. Common keyboard brands found at music stores are Yamaha, Casio, and Korg. Many keyboard sets will come with a case, stand, headphones, and may even offer recording features for recording your own playing.
Taking piano lessons from the comfort of your own home is the most convenient way of learning to the play the instrument - all you need for your lessons is a piano or keyboard to play on! Home lessons remove the hassle of transporting your child to and from their lessons, and can be fitted around busy work schedules more readily. Whether the lesson takes place in-home or in the studio, the content remains the same. Home piano lessons are a particularly good option for younger students. It is a big advance for young students to learn in a familiar, comfortable and supportive environment.
All students start their lessons at different levels of experience and with different aims and goals in mind. For beginner students who are new to the piano, lessons will be devised to give students the fundamentals of good piano playing. Students will learn the correct posture, hand position and fingering techniques for playing scales and chords. Students can develop these skills through practising scales, arpeggios and simple melodies using both hands. For advanced students, they will cover more intricate skills, such as creating runs and fills to add interest and variation to their playing, to develop their repertoire of pieces they can play and to develop their sight reading. Some students may have a specific genre that they are interested in learning, such as jazz piano. Students will learn the musical theory and techniques that underly a host of musical genres. Musika teachers are able to recommend books or specific areas of additional study that they feel will advance each individual student and help to achieve their goals.
Learning a new musical skill as an adult is a great way to keep your brain fresh! We have many adult students actively taking lessons with us, and this actually represents around 50% of our student base. Our instructors will offer an individually tailored lesson plan to the needs of an adult student. You will learn the technique of the instrument, specific repetoire suited to your skill level, and learn how to read music and sight read.
Due to the attention span of very young children, we advise that students begin their piano lessons no younger than age 4 or 5. Piano lessons are a great way to introduce an instrument for the first time to a younger child, as learning piano will teach them basic musicianship skills like rhythm and harmony, and how to read sheet music and chords.
