I use a big diversity of books and methods for my flute classes, that I pick trying to adapt to my students' age and interests. With little children I use many short and simple songs, that get more and more complex while the students are progressing. I like to introduce solo repertoire as soon as possible, to start developing the students' personal taste for music. I also encourage them to bring their own suggestions about the pieces or songs they want to play, and I create personalized technique exercises to improve the specific difficulties that they find along their practice. It is important to adopt a teaching style that is tailored to the individual needs of each student, especially because each student learns at their own pace. Setting goals is one of the first topics I discuss with my students, and then indicate some of the steps they need to take to achieve the goals that they set for themselves. Keeping track of a student's hours of practice and their musical achievements is beneficial for me to determine what new material and concepts to work on, and also allows the student to stay organized and motivated.  Read More

I am a graduate of Berklee College of Music, where I completed my degrees in Music Education and Saxophone Performance. During my time at Berklee, I studied notable professors such as Bill Pierce, Shannon LeClaire, Dino Govoni and Jeff Harrington. Additionally, I also completed his Masters degree in Saxophone Performance at Queens College under the direction of Antonio Hart. Reading to the students was a great way to connect with them. I taught and we explored important themes given the behavior and motives of certain characters. The story provided excellent ways to integrate the curriculum. We learned about economics, geography, probability, and psychology. We made geographical connections given the many places Henry Sugar visited, considered money conversions, inflation, and chance, discussed the historical times in the story, and learned some sophisticated vocabulary. Topics that were covered included Anatomy-related content “Musicians are Small Muscle Athletes”, “The Art of Practicing”, “Pleasure- The driving force of Progress”. My audience consisted of Conservatory teachers, student of all ages, prospective students, parents as well as non-musicians. The outcome was wonderful and inspiring since the lecture was designed to be very interactive and was very well-received. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing my students progress and develop their inner musician! Therefore, it's important that each student regular communicates with me their goals in music. I encourage students to set realistic practice goals after at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more.
