For beginners I often start with the Standard of Excellence, but it does not take long before we start to get into more individualized education. For example, a student may be bound for high school jazz band, in which case we will immediately begin on music theory and scale/mode practice from as early as 5th grade. On the other hand, I may have a high school flute student who wants to audition for conservatory, in which case I would use some Marcel Moyse books, orchestral excerpt practice, and standard solo repertoire. Instruments: Saxophone Flute Recorder
For beginning students I like to start with a method book, such as "Tradition of Excellence". This allows students to start from the very beginning, especially if the student does not have previous music reading experience. I teach reading and playing hand in hand so that it becomes a memorized process. After working through the method book, I will create individualized lesson plans, to include solo repertoire, band music, or other methods books. Read More

I also worked as a School Aged Child Care Leader at Sandburg Elementary School from 2015 to 2018, further honing my skills in working with children ages 5 to 11. In 2019, I attended Marrowstone Music Festival as a Fellow. This gave me the opportunity to mentor high school and undergraduate flutists individually and during sectionals and to coach a student wind quintet. During my final year at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, I also taught a Public Speaking course for undergraduate students. Read More

Every student deserves to follow their own musical path! I encourage students to develop and find repertoire that they are interested in. Each week, I motivate students to listen to recordings, attend concerts, and participate in local music groups. I practice a teaching style that emphasizes encouragement, objective critique, and fun! In my lessons, I keep music exciting, relevant, and educational. Read More

Every child has their own way of learning. Some are visual, others aural, verbal or kinesthetic. As a teacher I will adapt my lessons to each child needs. The basic structure of the lesson is review/present the new concept, apply it and at the end of the lesson discuss the new given homework for the following lesson. I will go to the student pace. I also take into account their reason of learning music and no matter what I try to make lessons interesting and fun for them. Read More

I encourage my students to set short-term and long-term goals for themselves to work toward accomplishing in our lessons. I also pay special attention to the goals and desires of the student's guardians to know what I do to help students reach their full potential. Teaching is all about problem solving in creative ways for me as a teacher. I am deeply committed to seeing others growth and develop their skills so that they become stronger and more confident musicians. Read More
