Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Seeing a student take on a challenging piece is more rewarding to me than anything. When I see a student struggling, I will offer the techniques that I would typically use, however there is no ONE right way to do everything. I encourage independent learning and going beyond the lesson. IF A STUDENT ONLY IS PRACTICING WHILE IN THE LESSON, WE CANNOT ADVANCE AS QUICKLY AS I PLAN. For my methods of teaching, I work on rudiments and work on basics for percussion. Even if the student has played percussion for years, I still want them to understand the fundementals for the instrument. As soon as the student is finished with rudiments, I want them to look at the different etudes in a percussion book that I will work off of for each meeting. As far as materials go, I am hoping that the student will have drumsticks and a practice pad. Read More
