I'm passionate about music all around. As a performer, educator, engineer and composer I find music to be fascinating. I want to help you see the fascinating worlds music has to offer. I have a Bachelor of Science in Music Production and Recording Arts from Elon University in Elon, North Carolina. I am also attending UNCSA for a Master's degree in Film Music Composition. I've been teaching guitar for about 15 years, voice for 10, drums and harmonica for 6 and classical guitar for the last 4. Over the years I've learned that the best way to approach teaching someone an instrument is to help them learn music that they love, as well as presenting concepts about what is happening in the music so that a bit of theory and the mechanics of how it all works gets mixed in with the enjoyment of learning just the technical aspects. My teaching expereince dates back to before I graduated undergraduate school. Since I had a semester to wait for Commencement, I was afforded an opportunity to work as a Teacher assistant, in an Open Classroom Learning Environment. This immediately preceded a very rewarding Student Teaching experience in the rural southern state of North Carolina. I was as challenging an experience as I have ever had being that my travel mileage on some days was as much as 80 miles. Upon my return to New York, I was afforded an opportunity to teach Beginner Band Grades 4,5 and 6, per diem for one year. Then I would go ahead and just hit a drum book with basic rhythms and start to go through it and try to create exercises from it.
