For beginning students, I find that the simpler the methods, the better. Essential Elements is a great series for beginners, and is a good way to teach basic music theory and musical ideas. As students progress, I like to introduce solo repertoire and books that are more specific to the instrument that they are learning. I first began teaching upon the completion of my undergraduate studies in 2004. At that time the majority of my students were beginners in their first or second year of playing. By 2008 I had completed the first of my two graduate degrees in music. With this accomplishment the students seeking lessons with me generally became older, typically in the junior high and high school ages. I recently just graduated from Millersville University with a Bachelor of Science in Music Education. My main instrument is flute and I have been playing for over the past 14 years. I have had to opportunity to participate in eight Pennsylvania Association for Music Education Band and Orchestra Festivals.
