I am a third-year undergrad at NYU, studying Music Education with a concentration in instrumental performanceand I love it! Currently, I am working on the last of my classwork before student teaching full time. I hope to graduate in May 2024 with a B.M. in Music Education and my NYSED pK-12 certification. When teaching young children and beginners, I use the Suzuki method. I have been certified in pre-book 1 and book 1 of the Suzuki method by the legendary educator Tanya Carey. For older/more advanced students, I use a series of methods taught to me by the renowned cellist and pedagogue Robert Jesselson, whose teachings have lead me to where I am today, and have produced cellists of the highest quality that can be found among the worlds greatest orchestras and institutions. I aim to tailor my lesson plans to each students unique goals. The methods I use differ based on each persons aspirations and learning habits. I believe that the cello can be a beneficial addition to anyones life, whether it is being played for recreation/therapy, to explore and enjoy great music, or to challenge oneself and build discipline through rigorous practice. I gravitate towards the Essential Elements for Strings books for beginner students because the books so effortlessly combine the first steps of cello playing with basic concepts of music theory and history. I then use a combination of cello duets, etudes (like Dotzauer and S.Lee), and method books (Feuillard) for technical studies. I always incorporate traditional music for the cello (like Bach Cello Suites, famous cello concertos), but work with students on whatever music they enjoy. Read More
