For young children I usually use the Suzuki method books for song selection and through those we can focus on the basic fundamentals of positioning and technical development. It is easy to see what needs to be addressed through those first few songs and we can go from there. For older children and adults we can select from a wider variety with input from the student and we can work on whatever technical issues arise based on the level of the student. Read More

I began teaching back in my high school days when local grade school students were in need of a teacher to continue their studies over the summer. I later took numerous pedagogy courses in college that only added to and solidified my skills as an experienced cello teacher. I always encourage consistent and smart practicing, and I provide students with method and scale books, as well as fun exercises to do with them. Read More

For beginning students I like to begin with a combination of Hal Leonard's Essential Elements and Suzuki Method books. Seeing my students enjoy and grow in their passion for music is the most rewarding part in my teaching. I can be a tiger teacher but at the same time be very patient, flexible, supporting, and open to listen to my students. I value communication with my students during every lesson, making sure if they are following along. I consistently ask questions to my students about how they feel, their opinions, or what they’re struggling with. Read More

I believe creativity and passion are the most important things that a teacher could help build for their students. Personally, I do not like to push my students too hard because I believe it is important to keep young kids being interested in the instrument, instead of being pushed to practice and quickly losing their patience. Practicing everyday is essential, yet I think as long as young kids practice a certain amount of time in total for one day, that would be find. Read More
