I am a firm believer in not re-inventing the wheel. I don't use my own lesson plans. I meet with students to see what they know and what they want to learn, and then use books, YouTube videos or tutorials to teach - learn with- students. A typical curriculum for me first learning the chromatic scale, then the major two octave scale. Then the minor two octave scale, then basic major and minor chords. Read More

I started teaching private guitar and bass lessons in my early twenties. As an instructor, I understand first-hand how important it is to have patience while learning because it doesn't happen overnight. However, with time, practice and consistency you'll keep the momentum going all the while achieving noticeable improvement. I get extreme satisfaction of bringing along novice guitar and bass players, as it reminds me of when I first started. Read More

I am a music instructor born and raised in Connecticut. I have been playing music for ten years, both self-taught, and with lessons. My experience playing has led me to play in several local bands as well. I am currently going to Western Connecticut State University to get my Bachelor's degree in music, and to further my education. What brings me to Musika is the opportunity to teach the skills that I have acquired through years of playing and learning. Read More

I have a relaxed teaching style that encourages musical and creative growth. I strive to constantly expand my students' musical horizons. As well as giving them new techniques to practice and new songs to learn, I will often give them new music to listen to. It is my belief that, above all, learning music should be a joyful experience; one which allows students to gain access to new ideas and gain insight into different traditions and cultures. I have written several books for the upright and electric bass player that cover all aspects of learning to play the bass. Depending on goals, for most upright players I would recommend a solid grounding in Simandl for learning the hand positions and fingerboard. I also recommend transcribing as well as sight reading and some jazz harmony. All these things are incorporated into my lessons. For electric and upright players I recommend learning tunes, musicianship, technical studies, and maintaining a professional attitude on the gig. Read More

Hello folks, my name is Andy. I am a 23-year-old musician with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Framingham State University. I am predominantly a bass guitarist, with an affinity towards jazz, psychedelic rock, alternative, metal, prog, and sometimes just straight up pop. I greatly enjoy working with younger musicians and spreading the practice of musical exploration. I'm happy to work with musicians of all ages and levels of experience, with the intent of helping students develop the skills they'll need to meet their individual goals. Read More

What Books and Methods I use depend on whether the student has a particular style in mind from the beginning of their studies. I will often use the Frederick Noad series of Books with students who know they want to study Classical Guitar and then progress to repertoire when the time seems right. If they aren't sure of what direction they want to go in I will use the Hal Leonard or Mel Bay Books to get them started, and when I start to see what direction they want to go in I will begin introducing different songs and repertoire to see what direction they seem to be headed towards.
