Instruments: Guitar Bass Guitar
Almost immediately after starting to play music, I began teaching my friends and family members how to play. I became the guitar teacher at my high school, teaching beginning guitar students for the last semester of my senior year. Then, when I went to college, I continued teaching friends and starting picking up students who I did not know at all for the first time. These experiences taught me how to deal with all age levels, and different styles of student learning. Read More

I've been teaching private lessons since 2010. I remember how excited my first student was during our first lesson, as he was learning the chords to his favorite Metallica song. The experience was profoundly motivating for both of us. As a teacher, there's nothing more enjoyable than watching students blossom into the musicians they've dreamed of becoming. During the summer of 2013, I worked as the musical director for a staging of "Waiting for Lefty" at Oracle Productions in Chicago. Read More

I was a music education major at Roosevelt Univ. and have personal experience teaching all ages from grammar school to entry level college students.I have taught in private studios and traveled to students' homes. I teach various instruments from beginners to various levels of accomplishment and when a student has that bright light moment when something clicks, it's truly a pleasure moment. I teach more than just an instrument,I teach music. This helps a student move forward and discover things on their own, such as how to play what they create in their head and how to get that to their instrument which is what communicates to an audience. I have been teaching private lessons since 1979. There is no greater joy for me than to see that spark of learning ignite and grow as my students discover that they can make music too. I tailor my lessons to match the goals of the student. Many of my students aspire to become professionals and others simply want to have fun with music. Whatever the reason a student chooses to pick up an instrument and play, my ultimate goal is to make sure that they learn the music that will inspire them to play. Read More

For most of my beginner students, I start with Alfred's Basic Method Book series (The only exception is Ukulele; I use the Hal Leonard's Ukulele Method Book). Beyond that, I work with each student to decide on songs and techniques that they would like to learn. I also make time in each lesson to introduce students to new music that showcases their instrument. As students progress, students will bring in their own examples for us to discuss together. My teaching style is designed to give each student a feeling of progress and real growth each lesson. It's essential that every student practice every day for at least 30min in order for my method to really work. In short, I like to be a resource for my students. A person who can present the information as clear and concise as possible. If the student wants to learn just rock or blues, I would show them licks and scales that are primarily used in those styles as well as learn any song they want to learn. Read More

My teaching methods involve a mix of real music, etudes, dexterity exercises, and rudimentary technical drilling. In each of these lessons I choose in one of the aforementioned areas the one I feel is the most pressing and in need of improvement. I am very strict about students using their metronomes to practice what I teach them. My view is that playing a song or drill slowly and in time with a metronome is better than playing it at the proper tempo incorrectly. Read More
