I tailor the program to the student's needs. A student seeking a traditional eduction would be presented with method materials such as Simandl, as well as Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Pop, jazz and other genres of music could be explored, depending on the goals of the student. As a jazz musician, I find that learning multiple styles opens up whole worlds of expression and concept. I have studied with classical players as well, and have worked through method books and excerpts. Read More

As hard as I worked to become a musician, I have worked at least as hard to become a great music teacher. I love teaching music! It is something I cared about enough to open my own music school in Orlando, FL called Broadway Music Academy in 2006. I have taught for many established music schools throughout Florida, New York, and New Jersey. I bring this experience to every lesson I teach and continue to learn new and exciting ways to engage students. Read More

The most rewarding part of being a teacher is to see your students grow and love their musicianship. Music is a language that is more universal than any other language in the world! Passing on the knowledge and works of composers and artists from yesterday to today. I set realistic goals for my students that are achievable and rewarding. I tend to look on the positive side of each performance and I teach through kindness humor and respect. Read More

One of my main goals in teaching is to inspire my students, to make them excited about music. I find that the best way to do this is to work on playing music that the student wants to play. That said, there should be a basic interest present. I expect each of my students to have an idea of why they want to play music. Ideally each student should be listening to music and know what he/she likes or dislikes. Read More

I began teaching while studying at Oberlin College, and have since taught private lessons everywhere I've gone, from Shanghai to here in New York, including bass, guitar, piano, music theory, and ensemble coaching. I have my own private studio, and have also taught private lessons at Art's House Music School in Coney Island and Pelham Music Arts School in Pelham. In addition, I have taught classroom music classes through Third Street Settlement Music School. Read More

I will almost always start lessons with beginners who are children with the Alfred method books. These are a very straight forward 3 book set that takes kids from knowing almost nothing technical about music to being able to play and read quite complex arrangements. Once we get our feet planted in this area I will expand into using chord charts and other materials to supplement. Once that is begun we usually start to make up a list of songs that the student may be interested in learning so I can build up the vocabulary to achieve at least a simple arrangement of those songs. For more advanced students who have done this work already, we will go ahead with more applied things and advanced concepts. But this is YOUR lesson and musical journey, so we will also pursue your specific goals, whether they be specialized techniques, learning ANY bass line, learning difficult pieces of music (yes, i'm talking Jaco and others, bebop, killer slap lines, etc), learning or improving your reading ability, or exploring improvisation more deeply. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
