My teaching style focuses on student-lead learning, where I will present a technique and then have the student analyze for themselves the effect it has on their vocal mechanism. The goal of training is to produce smart singers; what is the point of singing one song well if you can't apply the same techniques to another? I think music making is the most appealing part of learning to play a new instrument. This is why I try to make every new concept Iteach as appealing and as fun as possible. For example, if in day one I am teaching two notes, I like to have as much fun with those two notes by making a song or a game out of them. I usually start with breathing exercises and vocalises for all students. I also use the exercise books Concone and Sieber. After the student has grasped the breathing and the coordination of the vocalises we move on to repertoire that is age appropriate. I encourage my students to sing in Italian as this helps them to acquire a proper technique because Italian uses pure vowels. I have studied with some great teachers and feel like I need to pass on those methods to the next generation of musicians. Read More
