I began teaching about 7 years ago as a part time way of making a little bit of extra money while in school and began teaching at middle and high schools in preparation for marching band and festival band competitions 5 years ago. I have toured with 3 different ensembles in a jazz medium, a classical medium, and as a brass quintet and have played in many side by side performances with young children up to high school, as well as performing with members of the New York Pops under direction of the world renowned conductor and composer Steven Reineke. My teaching style is simple! I make having fun the most important part, especially for beginners because no one wants to do anything that isn't fun! It was the same for me when I started learning tennis. I ensure first that a student has a general grasp on basic scales and mechanics that are essential for the trumpet and afterwards I like to look into other components of the trumpet such as intonation, trumpet concertos and more advanced concepts such as attacks, soft/loud, playing higher, etc. Read More

I do expect regular practice outside of lessons; I do not want lessons to simply be a guided practice session. Ideally, students would fully prepare the assigned material for each lesson-- not that it needs to be perfect, but that I can tell that he or she has been working on it. For students who are clearly putting in a reasonable amount of effort, I reward them by writing out melodies of their favorite pop songs for them to learn to play. Read More
