I began playing trumpet in 5th grade. I enjoyed band throughout high school and decided to become a music teacher. I joined the Army National Guard band in Denver, Colorado and remained a part-time musician in three National Guard bands throughout my 36-year career. I am a great listener, who listens to the students needs and abilities. I believe that we all go through a metamorphosis, a transformation in our musicianship. Music is meant to be enjoyed not shoved through. I also believe that the student needs to be engaged, and challenged in their musicality by calling them to a higher technique within their abilities to perform. For brass, woodwind, and percussion students who are in a school band or orchestra, I would use the school's chosen method book in additional to supplemental materials that I would provide, based on the student's interests and needs. For those who are not in band and are just starting, my preferred method for brass and woodwind players is Tradition of Excellence. For intermediate players, I like to use material from the Rubank Intermediate book in addition to more fun material on an individual basis. Read More

I am an overly passionate musician that enjoys writing, listening, and analyzing music just as much as playing it. I use generally use Faber and Faber for piano and the Yamaha method for guitar. However, each student learns differently therefore I like to meet and assess the needs before choosing a course to follow. For band students, I use the school's chosen method of instruction supplementing with theory, technique and performance pieces. For piano students, I get to know each student's taste in music and choose accordingly.
