For beginning students who are children, I typically begin with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements; as well as other, more auditory practices that do not require a book. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce other solo repertoire pieces that I feel the student is ready for, and assist in musical execution for future recitals. I was excited to complete my graduate thesis in December 2021, Music for Creative Learning. It proposes a specific teaching pedagogy that is meant to stimulate cognitive development, foster creativity, and develop global civics.
