My philosophy for quality music education has three main parts: appreciation, practice, literacy. I braid all three of these parts into each lesson, with a student focused approach. I strongly believe that anyone at any age and abilities can learn enjoy making music. I ask to keep track ofwhat you worked on, how it felt, how much time you spent on each subject, questions or interests it brought up, and goals you wish to strive for. This is a routine that I've found very helpfull for musicians of all ages and expeience levels. As a teacher, I have learned the last 4 years that you can't expect a student to just know something right away. It takes time, and students have to take it at their own pace. Sometimes, you have to differentiate instruction often, until the student starts to understand something. So, I find it is important to be student-centered and focus on the goals they can achieve, little at a time.
