My methods vary on the student and subject. Beginning students will typically focus more on technical pieces of music to improve on certain aspects of a few pieces to perform. More advanced students will still practice technical parts of their music, but less time will be spent on it during a lesson. Advanced level students will spend more time on repertoire and performance. I have studied with: Lin Biviano (Buddy Rich, Lawrence Welk, Woody Herman) Larry Hudson (Rouge Valley Symphony), George Recker (Lincoln Center, Eugene Symphony), David Bender (Eugene Symphony), and I have taken individual lessons from Fred Sauter (Oregon Symphony) and Charles Schluter (Chigaco Symphony) I studied piano and Jazz Theory with Toby Konigsberg, recording artist and Jazz piano instructor at the University of Oregon. I taught my first music lesson in 7th grade to another trombone student in the band on how to play a part, after my band director was overwhelmed with other parts and HERE IT BEGAN. I have traveled across the country and worked in communities, providing affordable music lessons and community inspiration for all types of peoples. As a teacher, I have learned the last 4 years that you can't expect a student to just know something right away. It takes time, and students have to take it at their own pace. Sometimes, you have to differentiate instruction often, until the student starts to understand something. So, I find it is important to be student-centered and focus on the goals they can achieve, little at a time.
