I have lead others and taught them before ever having my own classroom as a leader in High School and College. It has greatly pleased me that my students have had many accomplishments in many groups. These vary from various Honors Bands, the Atlanta Youth Symphony Orchestra, and many High Valued Scholarships. My trombone quartet placed runner-up for the American Trombone Workshop National Trombone Quartet Competition in 2013 and 2014. I have also appeared on the national stage as soloist when I was a finalist for the 2013 American Trombone Workshop National Solo Competition. I hold a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Georgia where I studied with trombonists from the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra: George Curran, Brian Hecht, Nate Zgonc, and Joshua Bynum. For beginning students both children and adults, I typically start with Bruce Pearson's Standard of Excellence books. Once my younger students have progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I begin to introduce solo repertoire that is appropriate for their first recital performance. Once the adults have progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I try to find out what the student is interested in and guide my instruction towards that interest, all while keeping the lessons engaging and fun. My teaching experience started when I was in Highschool , and this has carried on throughout college and after college. I tutored my peers while still learning other instruments simultaneously. I have had the opportunity to teach at a number of elementary, middle and high schools in the atlanta and atlanta metro school districts.
