Initially (and throughout) I place a high value on performance fundamentals. I start with a focus on proper posture and breathing. Once this can be executed I breakdown the nomenclature of the student's instrument, how to put it together and break it down. Lessons are the time for me to check in, give guidance, offer motivation and encouragement, correct errors, and brainstorm solutions, but progress can only be made with daily, deliberate work on the student's part.
