Educated at Columbus State University with a Music Education degree, I teach many instruments including piano, guitar, including Classical style, banjo, saxophone, clarinet and flute. For beginning students both children and adults, I typically start with Bruce Pearson's Standard of Excellence books. Once my younger students have progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I begin to introduce solo repertoire that is appropriate for their first recital performance. My ultimate goal as teacher is to help my students develop artistic excellence. In order to achieve this, technical proficiency must be obtained on the instrument. To obtain this, our lessons will focus on proper breathing, holding the instrument, basic mouthpiece buzzing, and slide technique.
