My teaching style includes positive reinforcement, making and achieving small measurable goals that lead to big measurable goals, and teaching and instilling correct daily practice methods. I encourage each student to do their best each day and push through the difficult places. When something is too difficult for a student, I break it down into smaller, more understandable pieces, or change tactics to a different subject or piece. At the end of the day, my main goal is to have my students love music so much that they'd rather practice than watch the latest episode of their favorite TV show. I want my students to go the their music whenever they have a chance, not because they have to practice, but because they want to. Even though our congregation was small, we had a choir that was filled with very talented and gifted singers that I truly enjoyed serving with.
